This is Your Life - What's it Worth?
So what’s your life worth?
What would you pay to save it from ugly, painful and incurable disfigurement? And how much would you pay to save your kid’s life or your parent’s life?
Less than £30?
Not much is it? But that’s all it costs for a Thermostatic Mixing Valve, a TMV. This simple device, easily fitted in about an hour by a qualified installer, prevents life-changing scalds, even death, in any bathroom.
5195 children under 5 were so badly burnt in 2015 that they had to be admitted to a specialist burns service. That's 14 toddlers every single day.*
The average cost* to the NHS for a major burn is a massive £168,000 and this excludes the pain, anguish and costs to the individual and their family.
In the opinion of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association £30 is a ridiculously small price to pay to prevent those awful scalding accidents which have been described as “like being hit by a bus.”
Victims’ and their families’ lives are changed, forever.
The Hot Water Burns Like Fire Campaign, launched in 2014 by the BMA with its dozens of partners, is making steady progress in raising the awareness of the dreadful consequences of scalding in the bathroom. The next phase of the campaign is now being planned and we expect to see more progress and action in early 2017.
